We found that:

• Ōwhiro Bay receives proportionally 57% fewer buses than it should - resulting in us receiving the worst service in Wellington City

• Over 40% of all the School-Only bus stops in Wellington City are located in Ōwhiro Bay

• Ōwhiro Bay is receiving 62% fewer on-peak bus services than we were 6 years ago

• During 2023 Ōwhiro Bay was proportionately the most cancelled suburb in Wellington City, with over 1-in-4 bus services being either cancelled or suspended

 

In light of these damning findings, we have presented eight recommendations for Metlink:

1. Revert all school-only bus stops to public ones

2. Extend Route 1 to cover Ōwhiro Bay

3. Increase the frequency of Route 39 services

4. Make the Route 29 schedule consistent

5. Remove the short runs on Route 29

6. Extend Route 29 to travel to Wellington Station

7. New Brooklyn-Kilbirnie route

8. Ensure that the levels of disproportionate bus service cannot happen again
